3×1 Denim: Where Jeans Are Not All Created Equal

Searching for the perfect pair of jeans?  Do you wish you could walk in to a shop, tell them exactly what you want in a jean, and have them made for you?  Well now you can! Located in NYC, 3×1 is a boutique and atelier all rolled into one.  You can shop from their extensive selection of jeans, or have a pair handcrafted for you while you wait!  You pick everything from the fabric, to the color of stitching and even the grommets and buttons.

With two successful denim lines under his belt, Scott Morrison decided he wanted something more for his customers rather than the mass marketed, production line style of jeans.  That is when he came up with the idea of his “made in New York” jeans company.  The line that is available in the shop is made in limited runs, each pair is individually numbered and styles are never repeated.  Each pair is crafted by one person from start to finish in his Soho atelier making them truly one-a-kind jeans.

So, when walking into the boutique you can either choose from his line of handcrafted limited edition jeans, or you can have a pair designed and created especially for you.  This company takes pride in the process and looks to traditional craftsmanship in the making of these jeans. Even the name of the shop, 3×1 was derived from denim’s standard weaving construction, 3×1 Right Hand Twill.

The shop also boasts the largest collection of selvedge denim in the world. They house over 800 different denims sourced from the rarest mills and selvedge looms from all over the world. They create a pair of jeans the same way a master tailor creates a bespoke suit.  Everything is done entirely by hand, making sure there is incredible quality and attention to detail.

I love the fact that this shop is keeping the handmade tradition alive. I can only imaging how nice it would be to have jeans made and fit specifically for you.  I know this is one shop I will be stopping by next time I am in NYC!
