One of the most important fashion moments of 2015 happened today in London as John Galliano made his return to the catwalk. After leaving the fashion world in disgrace from his anti-semitic comments in 2011, Galliano has now returned as the Creative Director of Maison Martin Margiela.
This intimate show which only had 100 invited guests was an “artisanal” couture collection. Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most avant-garde brands in the industry and provided John the opportunity to explore more of his theatrical side of his designs.
The designs that John sent down the runway personally did not speak to me. They were true couture, entirely hand crafted garments, but were a little too deconstructed for my liking. I found the three dimensional objects too fussy and the overall appearance too surreal. There were some classic Galliano traits to the garments coming through, but it felt over done and just didn’t inspire me. Usually one of my favorite designers, I am holding out and hoping that he is just warming up and his next collection will win me back over.
